Alpiq sees power price recovery, Nant de Drance set for Dec. 2021 start

Swiss utility Alpiq expects power prices to recover further as its $2 billion Nant de Drance pumped storage plant enters operation by the end of 2021, it said Aug. 24. The 900 MW power plant is being gradually commissioned after the first of six 150 MW turbines was connected to the grid this summer. In its half-year results, the utility booked a CHF66 million ($71 million) impairment for legacy contracts at the pump storage plant because of less volatility in the hourly price profile, lower short-term market prices and another three-month delay to December 2021 for the project, which started construction in 2008.
