Brexit ‘could push CO2 auctions into Q1, 2020’

A delay in reaching a deal on Brexit this year could prompt the UKgovernment to push some of its 2019 carbon auction volume into thefirst quarter of 2020, consulting company Energy Aspects said April 16.Such an outcome could tighten the supply of allowances in most of2019 under the EU Emissions Trading System, and increase it in late2019 and early 2020.“In any scenario apart from no deal, UK installations will retaintheir compliance obligations under the EU ETS for 2019, through to theend of any transition period,” said Energy Aspects analyst TrevorSikorski in a note.
