Formed in 1985 by Brian Bradford, who's still at the helm today, and Mike Thorpe, who retired from the business some years ago, Northern Lift Trucks is marking this milestone year in several ways, not least at the forthcoming Balmoral Show where it will have a bigger than usual presence to celebrate with customers old and new. Operating from premises at Flush Park, off the Knockmore Road in Lisburn, Northern Lift Trucks are main dealers for the globally respected ranges of Manitou, Gehl and Hyundai machines that include telehandlers, excavators, loading shovels and forklift trucks. "We initially launched the business to take on the Manitou dealership and in those early days we operated from small premises on the site of the old Grundig factory in Derriaghy, but we quickly outgrew these and moved to premises at Flush Park and we have been here ever since," explains Brian Bradford. The success of NLT led to the creation of a number of other businesses which trade under the Northern Group umbrella. In the late 1980s, Paul Smyth joined Mike and Brian to set up what became the Arrow Rentals pump hire business. Norspace, a leading site accommodation & event services supplier followed, together with Environmental Techniques, one of the UK's leading Trenchless Technology companies.
