COMMENT: WORKING PARTY ON UK NATIONAL ONE-CALL SCHEME

Following its recent high-profile conference on a national plant protection service, the Pipeline Industries Guild has set up a working party to examine proposals for setting up a national call-centre-based scheme in the UK to minimize future damage to utilities' plant by excavation. The Guild, which includes members from UK pipeline owners including utilities and chemical companies such as Shell and BP, firmly believes such a one-call system could deliver substantial cost savings, by avoiding plant damage caused through excavations being undertaken without sufficient information.
