For years, the corpses of great energy companies - or at least that's a public perception - littered the streets of Houston. Today, an interstate natural gas pipeline giant has re-emerged with a new, simplified, strategic focus - on pipelines and exploration and production - and is re-shaping the organization from top to bottom to reclaim its long-standing title as North America's largest and perhaps its most capable gas transmission company. In the process, it's seeking to build this slimmed down 'new' company on the expertise of its 5,500 employees (down from more than 15,000 only a few years ago), as well as reaching out to hire the best and the brightest veterans from industry and institutions of higher learning.
