Pan-And-Tilt Camera Sees Inside Live Gas Mains

A modular, push-rod closed circuit television camera system that allows panning and tilting to accomplish internal inspection of live gas mains up to 2 bar operating pressure and 12 to 24-inches diameter, without the requirement for large access excavations, has been announced by Synthotech, a United Kingdom company. The SynthoCam? CCTV Pan and Tilt model is said to offer remote control and adjustable light and focus capability, enabling 360-degree circumferential vision in metal pipelines. The company said the larger metal mains tend to be located in town and city centers in the UK, where exposure by digging is more disruptive and costly. The current program to replace larger cast iron gas distribution mains has dramatically increased engineering activity levels in these more problematic locations.
