In an interview with Oilprice.com, Adrian Banica, founder and CEO of Synodon, a leak-detection specialist with remote-sensing technology in Calgary, discusses how new technologies have the potential to quell intensifying protests and can fingerprint pipeline leaks. Stafford: With pipelines on the frontline between environmentalists and the industry, do high-tech leak-detection systems seem to offer a way out of the chaos? Banica: In North America alone, there are upwards of a million kilometers of transmission pipelines - not including gathering and distribution. What we offer is attractive to both sides, environmentalists want it and the industry can afford it. Methods for inspecting pipelines have existed for many decades. We're providing a better way of doing it. Technology such as Synodon's offers an accurate and precise method of detecting small leaks before they become big leaks.
