With due respect to Edwin Drake who drilled the nation's first oil well in Pennsylvania a couple of years before the Civil War broke out, and to George Mitchell and his cohorts who over a century later perfected the commercialization of horizontal drilling, micro-seismic imaging and hydraulic fracturing, today's technology advanced through industry research and development as embodied in the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) isn't your father's or grandfather's R&D.
