The boom in the construction industry in the United States has spawned some problems in the industry which include series of mergers and acquisitions as competitors battle for market opportunities. Industry sources suggest the construction market, on the crest of the longest economic expansion, has probably been at its healthiest. The Engineering News Record itself has listed down the top 400 general contractors which, by its account, has generated $174.87 billion in revenue in 1999, representing a 12 per cent jump from the previous year's comparative figures.
