Corps to use embedded wall to repair Lake Okeechobee Dike

For decades the 140 mi (225 km) long Herbert Hoover Dike, which surrounds Florida's Lake Okeechobee, has suffered from seepage and concomitant soil piping problems. The U.S Army Corps of Engineers has made numerous repairs to the system over the years, but now a more lasting solution is in prospect. Before the end of this year, crews will begin installing a permanent cutoff wall and relief trench along a 4.5 mi (7.3 km) section of the dike to stop the leaks.
