WiBro goes head-to-head with HSDPA in South Korea

In South Korea, the government is promoting WiBro, with KT piloting the service in a limited area of Seoul with about 3,000 test users. KT engineers are in the process of working out the bugs in its network for a limited-scale commercial launch in June. WiBro enables handoff between cell sites so laptop users can stay connected while mobile in a train or car. The initial target market for WiBro would therefore be laptop users who are happy to pay, say, KRW10,000-15,000 (US$11-16) a month for unlimited wireless broadband access at home, in the office and everywhere in between.
