Coalbed Methane in the Western Interior Basin

The Western Interior Basin is located in southwestern Iowa, southeastern Nebraska, western Missouri, eastern Kansas and northeastern Oklahoma and is composed of the Cherokee Basin, Forest City Basin and the Northeast Shelf in Oklahoma. The coals are of Middle to Upper Pennsylvanian Age and were part of the extensive peat swamps that extended from this area into the Illinois, Black Warrior, Michigan and Appalachian basins.
