PWI 109th Annual Summer Convention, Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington, 2-6 July 2004

The 2004 SUMMER Convention hosted by the Darlington and North East Section was held in The Blackwell Grange Hotel, a 17th century mansion house on the outskirts of Darlington, set in 15 acres of wooded parkland. Friday 2 July A successful golf day was, again, organised by Tony Darroch and supported by RMC. Some 44 players applied to join the competitions, these being from Tarmac Precast Concrete, Pandrol, First Engineering, Network Rail, Balfour Beatty Rail Plant, EWS, Laser Rail, and Edgar Allen in addition to several retired BR personnel. Entrants had the pleasure of playing on a splendid parkland course in excellent condition and, apart from a short cloudburst, they were able enjoy reasonable weather and the 'going was good'. The PWI Cup for members was won by the 2003 holder, Jonathan Sutcliffe of Mott MacDonald, who amassed a total of 42 points and thus retained it for a second year. A total of 30 members played for this cup and John Mulligan, the Irish Secretary, put up a good fight to gain second place with 39 points.
