Fight the Right Fight

While visiting Italy this spring, my wife and I spent considerable time in the beautiful medieval city of Siena. Twice a year, the Sienese run an exciting horse race, the Palio, around the Piazza del Campo in the center of the town. The competitors are representatives of the 17 contradas, or neighborhoods, of the city. After the race, the winning contrada proudly marches around the city celebrating victory while the losers are playfully mocked.
