摘要

The pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus is one of the world's most serious pests of pine because it causes rapid and extensive tree mortality and results in significant economic loss. Beetles of the genus Monochamus are the most important vectors of the pinewood nematode. The movement of wood containing both Monochamus and the pine wood nematode between infested and non-infested areas clearly contributes to the spread of the disease. To determine whether B. xylophilus is present in the European Union, the Commission organised a survey. We detected no pine wood nematodes in Belgium.
