Award winning Chilean wood architect regaads Aalto as his inspiration

The Wood in Culture Association, a Finnish promoter of wood architecture, gave its Best Wood Architect of the Year 2008 Title to Jose Cruz Ovalle, a Chilean architect who has been fighting for years to revive the wood architecture tradition in his home country. Jose Cruz just returned to his home in Santiago after a 10-day trip to Finland bringing the 40 000 euro Spirit of Nature Award - Wood Architecture Award with him. His wish is to design a small wood building in Lahti, Finland, and finance the project with his award money. The building would be open to the public to come and rest their weary souls and tired feet. Even though Cruz has gained much fame and fortune during his career, he thinks that spirituality and religion are far more important than money and outward success.
