BAHAWALPUR MUSEUM: SWOT ANALYSIS.

Museums are a source of cultural preservation, intellectual stimulation andnentertainment in tiie society. Bahawalpur Museum is playing a significant part for thenpreservation and promotion of rich Cholistani traditions and culture in the SouthernnPunjab. It has arranged different galleries named Pakistan Movement Gallery,nIslamic Art Gallery, Quran Gaiiery, Bahawalpur Gallery, Coin Gallery^nArcheoiogicai Gallery, Cholistan Gallery, Regional Cultural Galleiy, ManuscriptnGallery and Fabric Gallery which reflect the glorious culture of Islam and Cholistan.nMuseum oTgämzes different programs Kke seminars, debates, workshops, Baharn(Spring) festival and musical Night comprises of Band, Camel & Horse Dance,nMagic show Tableau and Folk Music. The data for this study was collected throughnsemi-stiiicttired interview technique with the Director and other staff, guided tour ofnthe Museum and researehers' direct observation. SWOT analysis pointed out that itnhas positive policies a&d frameworks for promoting the Cholistani culture. Ü isnoffering different activities for students from Nursery to Master level. It organizesndifferent historical and artistic exhibitions and ensures the total involvement of localnconununity. Inadequate finance, non availability of tourist department, insufficientnchemical laboratory, less space and dilapidated building of the Museum are the majornweaknesses. It has a lot of opportunities for attracting more visitors by establishingntourists department, to create partnership with other institutions, achieving morenftmds from NGOs and intemational donors, publicizing and soliciting funds bynutilizing Web 2.0 technologies. Threats for the Museum include low use of newntechnologies, low interest of government in this industry, poor economic s i q ^ r t andnuntrained staff. On the basis of SWOT analysis, the study has furnished somenreconsnendations for the achievement of Museum's objectives and provision ofnbetter services.
