Technology Platform Smart Cities Austria - Value Added for the Electricity Industry

This article is based on a study commissioned by Oesterreichs Energie Forschung & Innovation and conducted by Energieinstitut der Wirtschaft. It first illustrates the concept of "Smart Cities" in the context of the Smart Cities and Communities Initiative of the European Strategie Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) and of the Austrian research promotion Programme "Smart Energy Demo - Fit for Set". It then presents the Technology Platform Smart Cities Austria, which was founded in April 2011 and describes the benefits, which the Austrian electricity industry can achieve from par-tieipation in activities related to Smart Cities and especially from an involvement in the Technology Platform.
