From airframes to powerplants to components, turntimes are tum-bling. In the holy triune of cost, quality and speed, the latter is gaining ground — fast. "Turntime has become extremely important to the user community, probably as it never has before," said Ron Jonkman, vice president for marketing and development at Standard Aero. "It's very critical," echoed Dan Kraft, vice president of sales and marketing for Limco Airepair, an overhauler of heat exchangers, condensers and oil coolers. "Airlines can't afford to carry as many spares as they did in- the past." "It seems like there is a trend here," said Bjarne Jorgensen, vice president of line maintenance of SAS Technical Services. "Airlines have been looking for cheap overhaul prices in Eastern Europe, or in Ireland. But it seems like now they are — a bit more — putting price away in favor of turntime."
