摘要

The New York Times reports that Major League Baseball (MLB) players have increasingly been out with injuries in recent years-26 percent more between 2006 and 2008. The newspaper cites league estimates that teams paid a half-billion dollars last season to players sidelined due to injury.rnOne theory suggested is that greater attention to testing for performance enhancing drugs has kept players from taking substances that formerly helped them play through the pain. Another possibility is that well-paid players don't want to risk their careers by playing when they are hurt. Some observers believe that baseball managers are playing their team members more cautiously than in the past.
