Set-Top Energy Program Claims $5B in Consumer Savings

Consumers saved approximately $1.6 billion in energy costs in 2018 alone as a result of the award-winning voluntary set-top box energy conservation agreement among pay-TV providers, manufacturers, energy efficiency advocates and the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® and NCTA-The Internet & Television Association. A new report by independent auditor D+R International found that the Voluntary Agreement has reduced the national set-top box annual energy consumption by 39% over six years, yielding cumulative savings of more than $5 billion in electricity costs and avoiding 28.6 million metric tons of CO2 emissions. The energy saved during this six-year period is enough to power all homes in the state of Pennsylvania with electricity for one year.
