Quantitative guidelines for urban sustainability

To quantify the sustainable requirements of energy, water, food, non-renewable resources (NRR), transportation, housing, and waste management for satisfactory urban life. To ensure a better quality of life, it is necessary to understand the consumption and future needs of the life resources. With mass urbanization, the developed world faces the challenge of determining the resources that are sufficient for progress towards sustainability. The present paper aims at quantifying the sustainable requirements for satisfactory urban life, i.e., energy, water, food, non-renewable resources (NRR), transportation, housing and waste management. The introductory part of the paper stresses the need for the present work and the approaches to the research work. The latter sections of the paper discuss the nature of the resources, the availability, the consumption pattern, and the sustainable requirements across the world. Section 9 of the paper summarizes the sustainable requirement and analyzes the results. Section 10 of the paper concludes by stating the scope of the present work and how it can be developed for further research.
