As Information technology has changed from a product to a service, it requires wider flexibility and support an array of resource management decisions. Cloud computing which is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources can be rapidly provisioned. The research work discusses the decision spaces of the cloud computing stakeholders and it can be optimized for everyone in the business of cloud, both from a cost perspective and from a green (sustainability) perspective. The paper tries to interlink between OR and cloud computing by 1. Comparing cloud computing process to a familiar operations research concept in network modeling using the traditional pull supply chain model, 2. Providing an operations research perspective on cloud computing by identifying the optimization problems that are need to be solved by the different players, providers, consumers, and brokers, in the cloud IT supply chain, and 3. How cloud computing can stimulate and drive new research in operations research. The paper then uses the classification of the decision problems for cloud stakeholders to survey the status of current and past research on a problem-by-problem basis. The paper concludes with the prospects of cloud computing OR. (35 refs.)
