Special Issue - File and Storage Systems

摘要

As motivated above, and as should become clear from reading the individual papers in this special issue, the storage, retrieval, management and protection of digital data encompasses a diverse range of research areas. Even though the magnetic disk drive was invented over 50 years ago, and permanent storage has been part of computing from the beginning, there are still many, many interesting research challenges in the area of file and storage systems. The papers in this special issue and the topics outlined above only scratch the surface of the interesting research work that is currently going on, and the topics that remain unexplored. The reader is encouraged to seek out additional information, respond to the authors in this special issue with any questions or comments, and to consider how their work might draw on research already done to solve a practical problem, or extend the existing research in novel and innovative ways.
