Destined for the Dustbin?

Exactly 25 years ago, in the November 1985 issue of ONLINE, my article on CD-ROM technology appeared ("CD ROM Technology: A New Era for Information Storage and Retrieval?"). Since then, those silver discs have lost much of their luster and moved from center stage to the chorus. Yet they represent an important watershed and prefigure technologies that impact libraries today and in the future.
