1. European gas oil markets remained relatively inactive in January, particularly from normally demanding Germany, after above-average temperatures were seen across the north of the continent. 2. Since 0.1% sulphur specification gas oil is now mandatory in the EU, 0.2% gas oil sells for a discount. The 0.2% specification fuel is still used in transportation fuel in Mediterranean countries not in the EU. Supplies of Russian 0.2% specification that would previously have gone to northern Europe have now been diverted to these countries instead.
