Ex-ConocoPhillps marketing VP drops lawsuit against jobber

Mark Harper has settled out of court a lawsuit accusing a 76-year-old jobber of walking out on a long-term supply contract.The former ConocoPhillips exec had sought $663,000 in damages from Bob Patterson, claiming that the elderly marketer had interfered in attempts to convert his dealers to Marathon. As part of the settlement deal, Patterson has in turn agreed to drop a breach of confidentiality lawsuit he filed against Harper and his company, Aiken, S.C.-based United Energy Distributors. Harper purchased an ownership stake in United and became CEO after he resigned as marketing VP from ConocoPhillips (OE 08/01/05).
