Gulf Oil has launched a new sales strategy that allows its branded jobbers to lock in fuel supply for five days at prices well under major rack, Oil Express learns. Distributors who helped the Northeast supplier test the program were pleased with the early results. For example, Gulf quoted a market-related price tied to prompt NYMEX futures on June 4 that allowed New York and Pennsylvania distributors to lock in loads through the following weekend. Thanks to the volatility in the market, the June 4 prices were some 20-25cts/gal lower than average rack prices by the weekend.
