Jobber Sees Stimulus Package As Potential Source For Company Funds

Super-jobber Mansfield Oil has taken the extraordinary step of hiring a grant writer to try to get some of the massive $787 billion stimulus package signed into law by President Obama on Feb. 17. With margins under pressure, demand falling off a cliff and credit remaining tight, Mansfield is pursuing non-traditional means of raising money. "We are rethinking what we sell, how wesell and-how we make money," Mansfield exec VP Doug Haugh told marketers at a SIGMA meeting in Breckenridge, Colo., last week. The Gainesville, Ga.-based oil company sees opportunity in the infrastructure and renewable fuels provisions of the massive federal stimulus package, Haugh says. The stimulus package contains many clean fuel and energy-related provisions including: 1. A tax credit for E85 refueling equipment that was boosted to 50% of costs (capped at $50,000). 2. $300 million in federal aid for fleets to retrofit trucks with emissions controls such as diesel particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction systems (which require urea/Diesel Exhaust Fluid sold either in bulk or by truckstops). 3. $500 million in federal loan guarantees for advanced biofuel projects. 4.$800 million from the Department of Energy (DOE) for biomass-to-fuel producers.
