Pilot Travel Centers to pay $100,000 to settle gouging complaints

The state of Kentucky has signed settlement agreements with seven retailers over gas price-gouging complaints in the wake of Hurricane Ike and a subsequent windstorm last summer. Five of the sites are owned by Pilot Travel Centers LLC, which has agreed to pay $100,000, the state Attorney General says. The other two sites are owned by Krunal LLC and Mike and David Inc., who will pay $5,000 and $2,500 respectively. The state launched an investigation after receiving dozens of calls from consumers reporting gas price spikes of up to $4.99/gal at some stations.
