Albertsons, a large grocer and fuel marketer based in Boise, Idaho, has joined the procession of fuel marketers that have launched premium loyalty programs which charge a subscription fee for extra perks beyond the standard loyalty club rewards. As OPIS has previously reported, experts have pointed out that customers who join premium loyalty clubs are more likely to be active members than customers who simply sign up for free loyalty programs. Albertsons recently launched "FreshPass," which customers can join for $99 per year or $12.99 per month. Members get free unlimited delivery for online grocery orders of more than $300, as well as a $5 promotional credit, 5% off O Organics and Open Nature products, a monthly Starbucks perk, and a VIP customer service phone line. Groceries don't have to be ordered online to get the perks, according to the corporate website.
