Marketers push biodiesel to save industry

Within Quebec, there’s a movement to ban heating oil use by 2030. Discussion of such bans came up at the recent virtual Eastern Energy Expo and the regulations were used to rally oil heat marketers behind an aggressive transition to greener bioheat. During the expo, large fuel marketers such as Global Partners and Sprague Energy promoted Project Carbon Freedom, a coalition advancing clean energy legislation that supports liquid fuel to decarbonize the residential heating sector in the Northeast. Global President and CEO Eric Slifka and other leaders said the time to convert to biodiesel blends and to promote the low-carbon fuel is now – before climate concerns lead more governments to outlaw liquid fuels in favor of electrification. Biodiesel blends are viewed as the way to take back market share lost to natural gas and to fend off the push to “electrify everything.”
