Using Google Maps to drive business

Jim Cox, a regional manager for CITGO, asked a dealer he was visiting to search for his gas station on Google using the address or station name. Both of them were dismayed to learn Google search indicated the site was “permanently closed.” During a webinar for retailers, Cox said there are many inaccuracies on Google because retailers have not officially claimed their sites. Google Maps is used by millions of consumers on a daily basis – not just to find the address – but also to learn of site amenities and promotions, to see photos of the site and to read reviews. “This is free advertising,” Cox said.
