Las Vegas – The federal government is developing tougher minimumstocking requirements under the food stamp program, now known as theSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, according to a workshopduring the recent NACS show.The rule might be modified to require c-stores to keep on hand sevendifferent varieties in each of four staple food categories – meat, bread/cereal, vegetables/fruits, and dairy.For now, however, convenience stores must stock three differentvarieties in each of the four categories and three units of each variety, for atotal of 36 items.
