Late 2014 and early 2015 saw contracts announced for further examples of high specification vessels designed to support the operation and maintenance of offshore windfarms. Early in 2015, Windea Group in Germany announced that its shareholder Bernhard Schulte had ordered two service operation vessels (SOVs) of Ulstein SX175 design from Ulstein Verft in Norway. Once in service, the vessels will operate under long-term charter contracts with Siemens. Bernhard Schulte is a leading, family-owned shipowner and ship manager that employs 16,000 sea-going personnel and 1,500 people onshore. It owns around 100 vessels and manages more than 650. Windea Offshore is a joint venture between Bernhard Schulte, EMS Maritime Offshore and SSC Wind.
