摘要

It is not unusual among leading Indonesian offshore support vessel (OSV) players to own and operate shipyards in the country that can be counted on for servicing their vessels. Yard ownership can also make a difference securing long-term charters in a country keen to enhance its shipbuilding capacity. As OSJ reported in May, the government has taken the first among many steps to encourage the development of its local shipbuilding industry by removing a 10 per cent value-added tax on the domestic sector. The move marks an early success for the chairman of the Indonesia Shipbuilding & Offshore Association (Iperindo), Eddy Logam, who is now looking at lobbying for the regulation of yard ownership in Indonesia to promote Indonesian interests in shipbuilding.
