Eidesvik's flagship sets new record for Kleven

A depressed oil price may mean a slowdown in the rate of ordering of sophisticated offshore vessels but few expect that the price of crude will remain so low for ever, and eventually better times will return. For Eidesvik Offshore, which recently took delivery of its new flagship offshore construction vessel (OCV) Viking Neptun, the hope must be that a return to better times comes sooner rather than later. When the vessel was first contracted in 2012, it was done without any employment contract in place, but Eidesvik was confident that the flexibility and capabilities of the vessel would be sufficient to ensure it would not be idle. Given the conditions then prevailing in the offshore sector, that confidence was valid and understandable.
