Interviewed early in 2015, Mr Perla described 2014 as "an average year" for Guido Perla & Associates (GPA), one that saw the company respond to enquiries with a high level of proposals but that was adversely affected at yards building GPA designs and increasingly was overshadowed by the potential adverse effects of the downturn in the oil price. The question on everybody's lips, says Mr Perla, is whether the price downturn will be a short-term one or more prolonged and what effect it will have on the offshore vessel market in which GPA has specialised for several years. Whatever the outcome, he says, GPA has always designed a mix of vessels and is not wholly dependent on the offshore vessel industry.
