Demand is up for DP-1 and DP-2 PSVs in the US Gulf. Operators have recently been looking to establish long-term charters for DP-certified PSVs, preferring high capacities. Deepwater rates have been fairly steady for DP-2 PSVs, with many vessels already under contract, although some vessel owners would like to see utilisation stabilise before asking for higher day rates. Day rates for PSVs with DP-1 have slowly started to increase, although the slow nature of this upturn was expected, given that those rates had taken more of a tumble over the last year compared to others. Newbuild vessels, meanwhile, are entering the market at healthy day rates. Some OSV owners in the US Gulf of Mexico are enthusiastic about the increase in demand for PSVs, and are anticipating a rise in day rates, especially given that more vessels continue to leave the US Gulf for Brazil and Mexico. More vessels continue to be pulled out of cold-stack, while some companies have even started hiring back crews, with one vessel owner telling Offshore Marine Monthly that it would have had all of its vessels working on charters had enough experienced crew members been available.
