The continuing political unrest across the Arab world is likely to discourage the influx of foreign direct investment (FDI), which is needed by some countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to fuel economic growth and bring down unemployment rates. Even the oil-rich states in the Gulf have wooed foreign investments, although mainly to diversify their economies, help the private sector create more jobs, and boost technology and knowledge transfer.
