The market for large, modern PSVs remains tight in the US Gulf, with tonnage in short supply. Smaller vessels are even being used to round out some operators' support needs. Newbuild deliveries are entering the market with term contracts in hand, and some vessels currently under construction are being fixed to handsome long-term contracts well before delivery.August saw some newly-delivered vessels contracted at elevated day rates, prompted by demand outstripping the available supply of Jones Act-qualified PSVs. So far in 2012, seven PSVs, a well stimulation vessel and a large Ice Class AHTS were delivered from US shipyards; four more large PSVs and one AHTS are scheduled for delivery in the latter half of the year. Several vessels delivered by US shipyards in 2012 left the US Gulf for term work with Shell in Alaska.
