While offshore drilling and development continues in Qatar, the country is seeing a fresh round of requirements for supply vessels on a long-term basis. In February, two major operators in the gas-rich country launched the biggest tender of the year, for five PSVs to support drilling and production operations off Ras Laffan. State firm Qatargas, meanwhile, has issued a tender for three 3,500 dwt PSVs to support its offshore operations. Two of the vessels will be required for a period of five years starting in May and July 2013 respectively, while the third unit will be required for a period of four years starting in October 2014. This was followed by another PSV requirement from Maersk Oil Qatar, which has issued a tender for two 3,500 dwt PSVs to support its operations off Al Shaheen oil field for five years firm starting in March and April 2013. Both tenders, which closed in mid-February, started a busy period of activity in the Gulf, with good utilisation and improved day rates.
