Oklahoma City MOWN Members Collect Cold Weather Clothing

More than 4,000 items of cold weather clothing, made possible through a campaign of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars, helped to warm needy residents of Afghanistan, many living in tents and shacks during the cold and snowy winter. The effort came about as a result of an appeal by LTC Charles "Chuck" Garrison, immediate past Commander of the Chapter, who, after Army retirement, is in Afghanistan with an organization on contract with the U.S. Army. LTC Garrison, along with numerous soldiers stationed in the Afghan country, quickly recognized the poverty of vast numbers of people, including families braving the cold and snow while owning no gloves, caps or scarves, not to mention coats. He contacted the Oklahoma City Chapter, calling for any cold weather clothing which could be donated, and the MOWW effort began with an appeal for help throughout the county.
