As global temperatures reach record highs, fires rage through states in various countries across the planet and carbon emissions continue to climb, the United Nations (UN) has issued a stark warning: the world needs to increase its efforts between three- and fivefold to contain climate change to a 1.5℃ rise at most. To effectively deal with the climate crisis, one of the biggest commitments as mandated by the Paris Agreement is cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. To achieve this, the world must be net zero carbon, or carbon neutral, by 2050. At the UN Climate Action Summit held in New York during September, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said: "The best science, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, tells us any temperature rise above 1,5℃ will lead to major and irreversible damage to the ecosystems that support us.
