ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest provides tidal power technology to generate clean, renewable and predictable energy from tidal currents occurring in coastal waters. The company is part of the ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH group, a global supplier of electro-mechanical equipment and services for the hydropower business. In December 2011, ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest successfully deployed its 1 MW pre-commercial tidal turbine HS1000 for the world's first tidal power array at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, Scotland. The EMEC site is considered to be one of most hostile waters worldwide: the installation of the HS1000 was carried out during the worst operational deployment period of the year with extremely strong winds and high waves.
