摘要

The university of Manchester has set up an Independent Review to investigate any possible health risks associated with the use of ionising radiation in one of its campus buildings, following the deaths of five former members of staff from cancer.rnThe Rutherford Building was where Nobel prize-winning nuclear physicist, Ernest Rutherford, experimented with radioactive materials such as radon and polonium in the early 1900s.rnIn the summer of this year, three former lecturers who had previously worked in the building published a report which raised questions about the possibility of staff being exposed to radiation as a result of residual radiation from Ernest Ruther-ford's experiments.
