Inappropriate handling and use of chemicals led to an explosion at a Surrey factory which left an employee with serious burns.rnJohn Balls sustained injuries to his face, chest, abdomen and hands in the explosion in November 2005.rnThe prosecution told Chelms-ford Crown Court that Mr Balls' employer, Storeys Industrial Products Ltd (formerly known asrnWardle Storeys), failed, following changes to manufacturing procedures, to re-assess the risks to its staff of the chemicals it used. The company admitted failing to ensure the health and safety of its employees and was fined ￡350,000 plus costs of ￡60,000. The company is currently in administration.
