Plans for new nuclear regulator announced

The Government has said it plans to bring forward legislation to create a new regulatory body for the nuclear power industry. To be known as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the new independent regulator will take on the functions currently carried out by HSE's Nuclear Directorate and the Department for Transport's Radioactive Materials Transport Team. It will also take on HSE's responsibilities for regulating conventional health and safety requirements at nuclear sites (eg. electrical safety, work at heights, use of chemicals).
