COSHH failings led to dermatitis outbreak

Aswindon pharmaceutical company has been fined ￡50,000 after a number of its employees developed allergic contact dermatitis. At least ten employees at Swindon Zydis Ltd (trading as Catalent Pharma Solutions) developed the skin condition when working with Olanzapine - an active ingredient in one of the most commonly prescribed anti-psychotic drugs and a known cause of allergic contact dermatitis. Even though Olanzapine had been identified by the company as the potential cause of previous cases of dermatitis, it failed to carry out an immediate review of its risk assessment as required by law.
