The Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) is a non-departmental public body that regulates the supply of workers to the agricultural, horticultural and shellfish industries. It was established following the deaths of 23 migrant cockle pickers in Morecambe Bay in 2004 and assesses labour providers to check they meet the GLA licensing standards, which cover health and safety, accommodation, pay, transport and training. The GLA website includes targeted guidance aimed at workers and those who use or supply workers, a large bank of publications and advice on reporting issues, all of which is available in a range of languages.
